In the year 1979, the government began to establish the concept of public transport in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, by establishing the Saudi Public Transport Company (SAPTCO) as a Saudi company with a capital of one billion two hundred and fifty million Saudi riyals (1,250 S.R) , and building a partnership with it to be the first national land carriage.
SAPTCO research the technological development in services provision, which led to introduce and add the digital services as one of SAPTCO's initiatives in smart transportation. By raising the quality of life and providing digital transportation services, SAPTCO kept pace with the Kingdom's 2030 vision. The most popular services are the services of self driving vehicle and “ Rokab ” for smart sharing transportation. SAPTCO provides a range of low-cost road transport services, taking into consideration the highest standards of safety and comfort.
Among the most prominent services are the public transport services on the road network within the main cities (Riyadh, Makkah Al-Mukarramah, Madinah, Jeddah, Dammam) with fixed tariffs according to operational schedules and regular traffic. In addition, the transportation services between cities through a wide and organized network, connecting more than (350) cities and centers in the various regions of the Kingdom. It also provides more than (650) trips per day through (13) stations and (157) agents. Among its services the international transportation to five neighboring countries (Egypt, UAE, Bahrain, Sudan, and Yemen) through (14) lines and (18) daily trips. The trip services are provided in a distinctive and luxury style.
Emirates Transport” is the commercial abbreviation of the “Emirates General Transport and Services Company”, which was established in 1981 as a federal corporation, later it was converted into a public shareholding company, owned by the Emirates Investment Authority by Federal Law No. 22 of 2019. The company started its activities in the field of public-school transport before expanding and becoming one of the leading institutions locally and regionally in the transport sector, leasing, technical and logistical services to the public and private sectors inside and outside the UAE. Its professional and local investment successes quickly enabled it to extend its activities outside the borders of the state, especially the markets of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
